Enogastronomy

Ischia’s vine growing history goes back a long way. Brought to the island with the influx of Greek- Eastern civilisations, vines were already cultivated on the gentle slopes of the Ischian hills at the time of the Eubean farmers in the VIIIth century B.C.
Ischian wines, with a history dating back more than 20 centuries, are truly the “nectar of the Gods”. The work involved in wine-making, the rituals of grape-harvesting and tasting the new San Martino wine, the beautifully ordered rows of vines gleaming in the sun, the ancient, must-scented cellars are, for the islanders, a cultural heritage to be preserved and passed on to future generations.
Hotel Grifo organises oenological itineraries for its guests, taking them on trips to discover the world of flavours and scents, as well as the Ischian wine growing culture and history.

As our partner, we have chosen one of the oldest Ischian wine producers. The Perrazzo company was in fact born in 1880 in the deep tufaceous gorges of the port of Ischia. And despite the fact that it has undergone a change in management – since the Sixties, the firm belongs to the Savastano family - the Perrazzo cellar is still there, on the right bank, open to a growing public, increasingly enthusiastic about good wine.
In this immense cellar one can examine the display of ancient tools used for wine making and taste “doc” Perrazzo wines: Vigna Spadara, Epomeo, Ischia white, Ischia red…
Those taking part in the oenologic tour, besides enjoying the free tasting offered, can take advantage of a 10% discount on purchases made at the “Ischia sapori” points of sale, sole  producers of  the island’s speciality: fruit flavoured liqueurs, in line with the philosophy characterising the Savastano family: a limited production in the interest of quality.
